Securing Better Broadband As the Minister of State for Digital, I was responsible for taking the Digital Economy Act through Parliament and the Act was passed into law in April 2017. The Digital Economy Act guarantees everyone a minimum broadband speed of 10Mbps. Furthermore, internet service providers will be required to provide compensation to customers if service requirements are not met. I am completely committed to getting my constituents the broadband speeds they need to fully take part in the modern 21st century technological age. If your broadband is too slow, get in touch.
Securing Better Education I’ve worked hard over many years to support all schools in West Suffolk. I applaud the success of the Samuel Ward Academy which has been rated “Outstanding” in its two most recent Ofsted inspections, thus paving the way for the Samuel Ward Academy Trust to join forces with Castle Manor Academy and Newmarket Academy to ensure the same excellent standards in education across Haverhill and Newmarket. I am delighted that Newmarket Academy has recently been awarded a “good” rating by Ofsted. Through the hard work and dedication of the staff it went from an “inadequate” rating to a “good” rating in three short years. And there is further good news - Churchill Special Free School in Haverhill was awarded and “Outstanding” rating in its most recent inspection.
Securing Better Transport A11 Fiveways: Since the A11 dualling was completed in 2015, I have campaigned hard for safety improvements to Fiveways, so I warmly welcome the announcement by the Department for Transport that £400,000 will be made available for the installation of traffic lights at Fiveways as part of a £220 million fund to relieve congestion on the Strategic Road Network. This upgrade is due to start in the spring of 2018. There will also be resurfacing work taking place following the harsh winter conditions. A1307: I have pushed for improvements to the A1307, the road which runs between Haverhill and Cambridge. The A1307 is an extremely dangerous road with far too many fatalities. This is widely recognised. I chair the A1307 Strategy Board along with the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce and we are currently gathering contributions from local stakeholders to fund the report on the traffic data survey. I have raised the issue of the A1307 with both the Secretary of State and the Minister of State at the Department for Transport. I will keep fighting to improve transport in West Suffolk. I am also campaigning for the A1307 to be included in the Major Roads Network.
