FEBRUARY 2018 NEWSLETTER FROM MATT HANCOCK MP
Here’s a snapshot of what has been happening in Westminster and West Suffolk
A Big Announcement
I have very exciting news – I am the first MP to have my own app. The Matt Hancock app was launched officially on Thursday, 1st February with news about it in the local and national press, as well as on my social media platforms. This app will be a huge step forward in creating a digital community for all of us here in West Suffolk to discuss the issues affecting our communities and our country.
I hope you will download this free app either thought the Apple app store or through the Google Play store - just search for “Matt Hancock MP”. Through the app, you will be able to be the first to hear my announcements and be alerted to news affecting West Suffolk. But most importantly, this app will give you the platform in which to get in touch with me and the other users of the app to discuss the issues that are most important to you.
This app is the first of a kind to be used by a politician in the UK - it’s the future for how MPs can stay in touch with their constituents. I would love for you to download it today.
I was delighted to have been appointed by the Prime Minister as the Secretary of State at the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. Having been the Digital Minister for the past 18 months, it is an area I know and love. DCMS responsibilities include the things that make life worth living. It covers area such as arts and culture, broadcasting, creative industries, heritage and the historic environment, libraries, media ownership and mergers, museums and galleries, the National Lottery, sport and tourism. And of course, as the Digital department it covers broadband, the tech industry and the future of the internet.
It’s an exciting part of the government’s agenda – and it’s been a great start so far. The Department has a mix of new and returning ministers – I’m very lucky to be working with such fantastic colleagues. In West Suffolk
I understand the pressures on local NHS services, especially GP services in Haverhill. I’m working hard with everyone concerned. The pressures over winter are significant, even with some big increases in funding.
We have seen two good pieces of local news. First, West Suffolk hospital in Bury St Edmunds is one of just seven general hospitals to be judged 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission. This is a real testament to the hardworking hospital staff and to their Chief Executive, Stephen Dunn. And second, GP services in Haverhill are now available 9am-5pm on a Saturday too. I’ll keep working with the local NHS to do everything we can to deliver better healthcare across West Suffolk.
ONE Haverhill Apprenticeship Awards
I had the great privilege of presenting ONE Haverhill Apprenticeship Awards which celebrate the success and the achievements of those undertaking an apprenticeship and the Haverhill companies who invest in apprentices. Well done to all the winners.
