I am pleased to share with you the latest update from my meeting with Lucy Frazer MP and Rail Minister, Huw Merriman. The meeting was productive, and I am delighted to inform you that Network Rail has announced a comprehensive review of rail services in Suffolk. This is a significant step towards achieving enhanced rail connectivity and increased capacity in our region.
During the meeting, I advocated for several key initiatives aimed at improving rail services in West Suffolk. One of the top priorities is the completion of the East-West rail project, which will have a transformative impact on connections across the region. Additionally, I emphasised the need for half-hourly trains and direct connections between Newmarket station and London. This would not only alleviate overcrowding but also make better use of the station and provide more convenient travel options for commuters.
The review by Network Rail presents a fantastic opportunity to shape the future of our local rail services. As we await the results of the Network Rail Report on Suffolk Rail, I will continue working collaboratively with key stakeholders to ensure that West Suffolk receives the high-quality rail services it deserves. I will keep you informed of any significant developments as we work towards achieving our shared goal.
