As UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care from 2018 to 2021 and Chair of the G7 Health Ministers, Matt led one of the world's largest healthcare systems. He launched the NHS App, drove major investment in NHS technology and data infrastructure, established NHSX, founded the NHS Genomic Medicine Service, and launched the NHS AI Lab to accelerate algorithm development across diagnostics and screening.

Championing Every Mind: the ALF Story
Perhaps the most personal dimension of Matt’s work is his founding of the Accessible Learning Foundation, ALF. Matt launched ALF at the Houses of Parliament in September 2023 and introduced the Neurodivergent Conditions (Screening and Teacher Training) Bill into Parliament in 2024.
Diagnosed with dyslexia himself during his first year at Oxford, Matt kept it private for twenty years, fearing it would hold him back. Today, he is one of the country’s most powerful advocates for every child and adult with a neurodivergent condition, because he knows first-hand what it costs when the system fails to see you.
